NISHIKIGOI
WHAT IS NISHIKIGOI?
Nishikigoi, often referred to as Koi, is a variation of the common carp fish which through selective breeding have evolved to display a variety of colors and patterns. Selective breeding has been used to produce Koi with traits such as large bodies, reflective scales, metallic-like skin, variated-scale patterns and light reflective luster. These majestically colored carp originated in Yamakoshi village in Niigata prefecture of Japan. Considered to be lucky, Koi have garnered much attention worldwide by pond and aquarium enthusiasts.
